Food & drink

There’s a surprisingly wide variety of quality produce available throughout the Glenkens and Dumfries and Galloway in general. With a fantastic selection available in the New Galloway Community Shop next door, you’ll have all you need to make some tasty meals at your own home from home whilst you’re here. As well as dairy cattle (there are some top quality, artisan dairy producers in the area including Loch Arthur Creamery), you’ll spot herds of the famous Belted Galloway with its distinct markings throughout the region – and Galloway Beef is available at local independent butchers too. There are lots of sheep farms in the area. Plus we are very lucky to have Hidden Veg, a small market garden, super close by in Balmaclellan. They produce a vast array of seasonal salads and green beans, courgettes and more.

If you want to treat yourself to anything from coffee and cake to a celebratory meal during your holiday in south-west Scotland, here are some of our favourite places nearby. (See below)
