There are many activities available in the area and you will find leaflets about most of them at the back of the Welcome Pack.

These include walking and cycling in the Galloway Forest Park and the numerous cycling routes.

The Galloway Forest Park also became the first UK Dark Sky Park in 2009 and events take place at the visitor centre at Kirroughtree and also at Clatteringshaws which is just 6 miles from New Galloway.

The area around Loch Ken has an abundance of water based activities including fishing, sailing, water sports and many others at the Galloway Activity Centre. Fishing licenses can be purchased at the shop and the Post Office.

For children there is the Cocoabean Factory at Twynholm and the Dalscone Farm Fun at Dumfries. All the family will enjoy a visit to Cream O'Galloway near Gatehouse of Fleet.

Further afield there is Logan Botanic Gardens, near Stranraer or in the other direction nearer Dumfries, many Robert Burns related places to be visited.

For shopping the nearest town is Castle Douglas, 15 miles south on the A713 which has many independent shops as well as 2 supermarkets. Dumfries is approximately 25 miles east and Ayr 38 miles north on the A713.
